Addictions among Alfa Fundacion High School’s students

Written by: Debanhi De Los Santos
In the past months of September and October, students of different groups had a course about addictions with the company of a PEM, Erika I. Cardona. They approached different topics and learned from different perspectives by doing different activities.

At the beginning of the course, Ms. Cardona worked on a dynamic activity with the students. This activity talked about basic concepts that students were supposed to know, by using roles that made a reference to Alicia in Wonderland. Boys and Girls worked in teams, enjoyed the game and learned together. They also learned in company of “Pepita Nuggets”, a character that was introduced by the teacher in one of the activities.

One thing that the young pupils learned was “how to say no”. Ms. Cardona showed them different methods and techniques to say no in case of facing a difficulty regarding dangerous substances. But she didn’t use any dangerous materials, she used delicious candies. She even arranged teams so everyone could have a role; one student was the one who was being persuaded and the other students were persuading the target of the team. Some people were weak at the temptation of the candy, but other people kept saying “no” to their classmates and won the game.

The students learned a lot of things about the dangers of using illegal or dangerous substances and nowadays situations in real life related to drugs. Now, they are able to consider a lot of factors and consequences before taking any risky action.
